Meet Mr Key

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon | FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Choosing to undergo joint or mobility surgery is a major milestone, and my goal is to ensure you feel entirely confident, informed, and supported throughout your treatment. As a specialist hip and knee surgeon, I am dedicated to restoring your mobility, relieving pain, and helping you return to the active island life you love—whether that means a walk along St Brelade’s Bay, returning to sports, or simply living free from daily discomfort. I am joining practice in Jersey following a number of years working within leading UK orthopaedic centres, and I am delighted to be establishing my practice here having previously spent time on the island as a locum consultant.

My path to orthopaedic surgery began at the University of Cambridge, where I studied at Queens’ College and was awarded several academic prizes. I went on to complete higher specialist training on the Royal London Rotation, followed by advanced fellowship training in hip and knee surgery in both the UK and Australia. This included time on the Gold Coast, as well as further specialist experience at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and the world-renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

I have held consultant posts at both the Royal London Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where I have been involved not only in clinical care but also in teaching, training, and service development. Throughout my career, I have maintained a strong commitment to education—working with trainees, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams to support high standards of care and continual improvement.

Alongside my clinical work, I have developed a particular interest in the role of technology and innovation in orthopaedics. For the past four years, I have served as the UK and Ireland Medical Lead for DePuy Synthes, a global medical technology company specialising in orthopaedic implants and surgical technology, where I led the introduction of robotic-assisted knee replacement technology. This role has involved training surgeons and clinical teams, as well as contributing to the responsible and evidence-based adoption of new techniques.

Research and academic work have also been an important part of my practice. I have contributed to peer-reviewed publications, international presentations, and orthopaedic textbooks, and I remain actively engaged in advancing understanding in hip and knee surgery. My research interests have included the analysis of joint movement and function following joint replacement, helping to inform improvements in surgical technique and patient outcomes.

Above all, my approach is centred on clear communication, careful decision-making, and working collaboratively with patients to achieve the best possible results. I believe in combining established surgical principles with modern developments in technology and technique, while always keeping individual patient goals at the heart of treatment. My aim is to offer patients highly personalised, evidence-based care with access to contemporary surgical techniques and technology where appropriate.

Outside of my clinical practice, I am enjoying settling into island life with my family. When I am not working, I can usually be found running around after my young daughter, playing the guitar, or planning our next family skiing trip. I look forward to welcoming you to my clinic and partnering with you on your treatment journey.
